One of the first things you will notice about Mary is just how calm and friendly she is. This is not to say that her general driving knowledge and specific teaching methods are anything short of excellent, but the whole experience and atmosphere when learning to drive with Mary was enjoyable and was a vital help, at least to me. Learning to drive with no previous experience, especially with some stories you might hear about other instructors, can be daunting, but you can quickly appreciate the comfortable learning environment that is created. Mary soon knows how to get the best out of you and will gladly chat about anything you like, regularly asking about how my exams were going for example, and you begin to learn things quicker than you can realise. Mary provides a wide range of driving experiences for the test and beyond and her resources and information are first class. The emphasis really is on understanding and sensible driving in the long term. Ask anything and Mary can help. Her step-by-step approach and list of quirky catchphrases, which I think I might have added one or two to, help you to remember everything, in theory and practice, you need to know. Another benefit that you don’t get with a lot of other instructors is that Mary can book your test for you. This removes a significant burden when it comes to looking for cancellations which Mary managed to pick up to bring my test forward while I was at college. Mary really does take an interest in the individual as well as working hard to keep up to date with all the necessary knowledge of the road. All in all, you can’t ask for more. I would, and repeatedly do, recommend Mary ’s School of Motoring to anyone looking to learn to drive.

"I started learning to drive on 02/06/07 with Mary and passed my test with her on 05/12/07. I didn’t want to drive when I had just turned 17 (December 06) and so no-one pushed me to do so until my Mum and Dad could take no more of giving me lifts everywhere!! When I started with Mary I was really nervous but after I had done my first lesson I was amazed at what I had already achieved!!

Mary made my journey through learning to drive, learning how to maintain a car and learning how to read the road very enjoyable and I’ve not looked back since the first time I sat down in the driving seat of her Punto.

Using diagrams, toy cars and clear explanation skills, Mary taught me how to be a safe but confident driver. She is very dedicated to her job providing me with photographs to explain various rules on the road, providing me with a PC version of the Hazard Perception task to help me to practice for the theory and giving me the motivation to get up at 8:00am every Saturday, ready to drive at 9:00am!!

I would recommend Mary as a driving instructor (whether you are male or female may I add!!!) and thank her so much for everything she taught me on the roads".

I have been previously taken driving lessons with two driving instructors before I had lessons with Mary Davies.

Although both of the instructors covered the basics and have shown me how to drive, it wasn’t until I actually started driving with Mary that I actually felt that I have become a safer driver, and that I was not going through the motions to just pass my driving test.

Mary has provided me with a greater understanding of driving/ the rules/ what to look out for, when I have not understood something she has gone away and come up with practical solutions :- such as performing driving manovers herself and providing diagrams on reference points for me, and even going as far as taking photographs..

Mary’s dedication to her job means that she will assist you 100% in getting you to your goal, I have appreciated her honesty and direction whilst learning to drive.

It has not been unknown for me to have even been given homework to look over- all with the aim of understanding the road- but always specific to the areas where I struggled, and this information was well appreciated and useful when preparing for my driving test

After passing my test in October, I didn’t really feel very confident as a driver, so I decided to undertake further lessons to develop my driving ability to its optimal level. Mary is a fantastic driving instructor; she accompanied me in my own car and although there were no dual controls I felt very confident and safe. Mary would often point out any mistakes I made whilst driving and left it up to me to figure out how I would correct myself, that way I was able to think for myself.

Mary’s comments were very honest regardless as to whether I was right or wrong but the comments were more than welcome as it is this attitude that makes a pupil want to learn more and improve themselves.

I have already been recommending Mary as a driving instructor, she is confident and very capable of the job.

As a new driver I was worried about staring my driving lessons, but, Mary helped me to overcome the worry of driving and has taught me to be a confident and safe driver in preparation for my test. In just a few lessons I felt confident enough to do several maneuvers and drive on roads with lots of other traffic. Mary’s explanations and demonstrations prepared me for maneuvers well before I had to do them.

Before coming to Mary’s School of Motoring I was extremely nervous about learning to drive. Thanks to Mary’s patient and often humorous manner, coupled with her excellent instruction I’m improving greatly with every lesson and loving it!
